When to change a mailbox password
Mailbox passwords protect IMAP/POP/webmail access for addresses like [email protected]. They are separate from your NextShopper Account password. Change a mailbox password from the Emails list when you suspect compromise, rotate credentials for staff changes, or after first provisioning if you were given a temporary secret.
This guide uses the portal labels New password and Change password.
Who this guide is for
- Mailbox owners and company admins
- Users locked out of webmail/IMAP
- Teams rotating credentials after an employee leaves
Before you start
- Sign in to the client portal (account password).
- Open Emails and locate the address.
- Choose a strong unique mailbox password; do not reuse the portal password.
- Plan to update phones, Outlook, and apps immediately after the change—old passwords fail at once.
Step-by-step: change the password
- Go to Emails.
- Open the mailbox you need.
- Enter New password.
- Select Change password.
- Confirm Mailbox password updated at the adapter.
If the adapter is unreachable, wait and retry, or open a ticket rather than creating duplicate mailboxes.
What happens next / how to verify success
- Sign in to webmail or an mail app with the new password.
- Confirm send/receive still works (DNS must already be correct).
- Revoke old app passwords if your mail client stored the previous secret.
Common problems
| Problem | What to try |
|---|---|
| Change fails | Retry; check service not suspended; ticket to staff |
| App still uses old password | Update or remove the account and re-add |
| Confused with Account password | Account changes are under Account → Update password |
| Password rejected as weak | Use a longer mixed password |
| Wrong mailbox updated | Confirm the Address before saving |
